HAPPY first Monday of 2012! Does everyone feel refreshed and renewed? Or do you need a holiday to recover from the holidays?
We certainly had a very different Christmas holiday this year ~ our first one away from our hometown in Canada ~ no snow, no Christmas carols, no toy commercials, no Santas in the malls. Christmas is certainly low-key here in Dubai. Since we only had a few days off, and not enough time to make the huge trek across the world to see family, we planned a little getaway...
We started in Singapore and took a mini cruise up the Malasian coast stopping in Kuala Lumpur, the island of Langkawi and Phuket, Thailand.
This is a part of the world I never dreamed I'd get to visit since it's quite the distance from Canada but when you're already in Dubai, it's close by.
First stop: Singapore
To be honest, the majority of time our time in Singapore was spent shopping. Named one of the world's 5 best shopping cities, Singapore is definitely where you'll get your fix. And if you stay at a hotel on Orchard Road, everything is right outside your door.
And what did shopping Santa bring me for Christmas? This lovely Kate Spade bag in the most delicious shade of warm red {thank you Santa!}...
The food in Singapore is amazing and the mall food courts alone had me intrigued so I'll share a bit of what we saw...
Everything handmade right in front of you from the freshest ingredients...
My lunch... chicken ramen, gyoza dumplings and a chocolate "fish" waffle pancake filled with banana custard for dessert...
Singapore definitely puts typical food courts to shame ~ my lunch was delicious!
Next stop: Kuala Lumpur

Lisa, you lucky girl...that handbag is gorgeous! The food in Singapore looks pretty fab too...I think I could eat my way around that food court. I'm looking forward to your post on Phuket, as we holidayed there years ago...a very relaxing, pretty destination. Robx
Oh what a fun trip! Lovely photos!
What a wonderful L.V. window!
Beautiful bag for you! You must have been a very good girl. We should all have at least 1 red bag.
FRITTERS. Yes please.
Happy Monday to you!

Well, if it makes you feel any better we haven't had any snow in about 2+ weeks in Calgary, so it was a not so white Christmas. It looks like you had an amazing time and what an experience, happy new year Lisa, I can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for you!
Happy New Year!! What a perfect way to celebrate especially being away from home. I hope to make that trip some day in the mean time I will live it though you. Santa was good to you, love the red bag!!
omg!! the food looks wonderful! I love all of it especially the goldfish looking sweet! what a fun time.
Wow Lisa, that certainly is a different kind of Christmas. I lived in Singapore as a child, my dad was in the Marines and was stationed there, in fact my brother was born there. Sadly though, we were very young when we returned to Ireland so have no memory of it. I daresay it has changed a lot since then.
Santa was good to you wasn't he? He was good to me too, I got my Nespresso machine and am sooo happy with it. Many thanks for your very kind comments. Blogging is wonderful isn't it? Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip. Love Linda x
How very exciting!! We want to go to Singapore but it's a 17+ hour flight from here and my hubby doesn't fly well....so I'm not sure we'll ever make it that far. (Italy was a huge stretch for him and that was only about 10-12 hours flying time)
The food looks and sounds amazing!! Can't wait to hear and see more...
Sounds like an amazingly adventure, what fun! I loved my visit to Singapore, THE best food!! Happy New Year! Janell
Wow, I would LOVE to visit Singapore one day!! The food looks fantastic and I adore the prezzie that Santa brought you ;)
