NO TRIP TO Muskoka would be complete without a stop at Marty's World Famous Cafe in Bracebridge, Ontario. And knowing that I'm leaving Muskoka, I had to make a final visit there to experience one last butter tart.
Marty Curtis started his cafe as an ice cream shop, then added espresso and baked goods to stretch business year-round. Soon his butter tarts and Big Ass pies were famous and his fan base now stretches worldwide and includes Goldie Hawn and Mike Myers to name a few. And his Big Ass pies really are big - 16" across and 4" deep! His special stainless steel, engraved pie plates are available to purchase in store or on his website. He has recently published a cookbook that reveals that secret butter tart recipe, a 100-year old recipe from nuns in Quebec. In the heat of summer, he makes upwards of 1000 tarts a day to keep up with demand. So if you're ever headed to Muskoka, be sure to stop into Marty's to stock up on butter tarts for your trip! mmm...

Funny I was just thinking about butter tarts the other day..we don't have them down here in So Cal...I LOVE them...used to eat them all the time growing up in Canada.

Ok, I think I just gained 10 pounds by reading this! Looks yummy!
How did I miss Marty's all those years I spent in the Muskokas? I'll need to make a pit stop next time I'm there.
You forgot to warn everyone...DO NOT eat the butter tart while driving... mmmmm yummy, gooey mess!! Best I've ever had!
Butter tarts are one of the best Canadian treats...alongside Nanaimo Bars! Marty's look especially spectacular.
