[ vintage bed makeover ]

REMEMBER THIS fantastic metal bed frame I picked up while thrifting at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore a few months ago? [see post here] Well, after debating on whether to paint it or not and reading all of your lovely comments, I thought I'd share the makeover with you!

Originally I thought I would paint it white - it's always my favourite way to update old pieces and I'm a huge fan of white. The walls in the guest room are a biscuit shade with white drapes and I didn't want to change the wall colour - painting the bed white would have looked very pretty. But then I thought, maybe I should step out of my comfort zone and go for something a little more fun and colourful.

So, inspired by the beautiful colour of my favourite Domino decorating book, I knew I had found the perfect shade of paint. I came across Martha Stewart's sample sizes (plenty to complete this project) and had Home Depot mix me a little pot of this gorgeous turquoise green, very reminiscent of that vintage colour popular when this bed was in style.

After a bit of primer and a couple coats of paint, here's the final result!

I like that the room still has a bit of a beachy feel but it gives it a pop of colour. Even though we're moving, this look can easily be recreated in another home. What do you think?

I am so glad you ending up painting it. It really turned out perfect!! I LOVE the color...it is just the right amount of pop. The little details in the comforter and pillows tie it all together!!

I LOVE that you picked that color...I always want to paint everything white but sometimes a strong color is great! Great choice.

I love this!! It's kind of funny I have an antique bed almost exactly like that has almost everyone in my family has had at one point and it has been painted a million times. Right now I have it painted black but I'm definitely going to consider painting it a bright color after seeing this. Thanks for sharing!
