[ fleas and ants ]

WELL, I have officially been to my first Dubai Flea Market. And... well, let's just say it wasn't what I had expected.

It could best be described as a swarm of ants at a picnic. A total frenzy. People pushing and rummaging through bins and piles, I could barely get anywhere near the goods.

Needless to say, I left empty-handed, apart from being asked by a Gulf News reporter if she could take my photo for her coverage of the event (I politely declined).

I was really hoping to find some vintage pieces and household things - something besides clothes and cheap sunglasses. Hmm... I wonder if I'll ever convince my guy to try again later?

Oh that looks like a nightmare. I don't really like crowds, think it's because I'm pretty short. Sounds like it was more swap meet like than flea markety.

It appears to be a designer knock off nightmare! Good luck in your quest for a real flea!

Sorry you had no luck...hopefully something more up your alley will come along soon and you can feel the thrill of the hunt...that's how I feel when I am trying to unearth a find. Happy Monday!

Ahhhh...that looks frantic, not my idea of a flea market.

Hope you have a great week!

Well, you have
to kiss a lot
of frogs to find
a prince....and
maybe try a lot
of different types
of sales in Dubai
to find what you
are looking for!
I can see how you
were disappointed,
though. Keep trying,
sweet friend!

Hi Lisa, Wow it looks manic! I am guessing this was the indoor one at Zabeel Park? I think it's best to wait and try again once the flea market moves back outside to Safa Park once the weather cools. The crowds are still crazy but since everything is outdoors, people have more room to breathe and move around - they will not be sardined like this :)

There is not much in the way of real vintage out here in Dubai, since it's such a transient place, but you can find people selling off some useful bits and bobs for dirt cheap, and then ocassionally one or two sellers will have something REALLY nice.
