[ my rug inspiration ]

THERE'S one thing in a room that always seems to make it feel cozy and complete ~ a rug. With all of the sheepskin, zebra hides, seagrass and chevrons and geometric patterns we've been seeing lately, it's nice to know that there's still a place for the oriental/persian...

Even though we weren't seeing them as often in decor magazines, they've never fallen out of style and they're showing up more and more in both modern and contemporary spaces. I love that no matter the room, you can always find a spot for one.

I had a small one in our Muskoka kitchen and I've been considering getting a large one for a while. What about you? Do you have one in your home?

I love persian rugs. I don't currently have one in my house but I grew up with them. My parents have a huge collection of very expensive persians and I love them. They have such great color!

If I was in the middle East, I would be buying Persian rugs. The value of sisal does not increase and indeed Persian rugs have always been used for trade as their value increases as does their beauty. I have several cheapish ones and swear by them. They do not show marks and are perfect with pets. Plus you can roll them up and take them to be cleaned.

I have 2...one in the living room that I love. It's a pale blue/gray wool with textured "starbursts" of browns and rusts - very mid century looking and just fun.

Then I have a off white shag in the dining room, but since we've gotten a new table it's too small now, but until I find a replacement, it'll stay. :-)

I don't have one but it will be the next acquisition for my home. I adore them and agree that they never really go out of style.

I couldn't agree with you more, but we still don't have one in our living room. My husband and I have a hard time deciding on one. I'll be in Morocco for a few weeks, next month, so fingers crossed I find one there ;) Hope you're well!

My husband and I started buying Persian rugs when we first got married in 1981 and he was a graduate student and I was just starting my career in finance. We didn't have a lot of money, but somehow managed to scrape enough together to buy them. When we moved to Switzerland, also in the 80s, we lived above an oriental rug store that sold the most gorgeous rugs - rugs that we had never seen in the U.S. Of course, the prices were astronomical so we never bought one but I would hover in front of the store whenever I walked by. I am so glad we bought the 4 that we did. They are a little worn, but they were meant to be used, and they are! I'm glad they are coming back.
