STROLLING AROUND the area of South Richmond, Portobello in Dublin, you can't help but make a stop at Christy Bird. Known as Dublin's best known antiques and second hand furniture shop, it's been around since Christy Bird himself opened its doors about 70 or so years ago. They've been recycling Dubliner's furniture, be it household or antique, ever since and if it has a resale value they will sell it, and they'll even buy it back when you're done with it - now that's recycling! Many films shot in Ireland have used props from Christy Bird as well.
Time for some rummaging!
Wouldn't one of these doll houses make a little girl squeal with delight?
Lots of tables and chairs in various states of repair...
A gorgeous marble-topped table...
This sailboat would look great in a nautical-inspired room...
How about enjoying a Moroccan dinner on this little table?
Three floors of goodies to sort through...
Heading down into the basement (which I must admit was somewhat creepy down there), I found these old school chalkboards - wouldn't one be great on a kitchen wall or in a kid's playroom?
Or if you're looking for a mantel, you're in luck!
Christy Bird is one of those shops that's fun to look through because you never know what you will find. It's like Ireland's version of an antique store/thrift store/architectural salvage - my kind of place to spend a weekend afternoon. (plus, they ship worldwide!)

Awesome store I could spend hours in there. What did you get?
Sad to say, I didn't end up buying anything (which is rare for me in a shop like this!)- most of the things that caught my eye were large items and before I start considering shipping overseas, I need to mull things over. At least I know I've got time to go back :)
Looks like an amazing store! I love wandering through shops like that...I end up staying forever just looking and re-looking at all the wonderful treasures. We did Italy this year...and found a great store like this in Venice. Ireland's my wish for our next vacation...this shop would definitely be a "must stop" at place!
That store looks amazing! I love going into places where I have to sift through everything to find the real gems. This one looks like it should be a regular spot to visit.
I love Christy Birds. Hours and hours of fun. Your blog is great . I saw your cute photo over at Julies blog Milk and Honey Home and decided to pop over! Sinead
What great finds! I adore the green/pinkish chair. I could get myself into all sorts of trouble and projects with a shop like that :)
I'm not sure I could have left those chalkboards behind. Just the kind of place I like to loose an afternoon to.
I love these kinds of shops! You really want to make me visit Ireland...soon.
Those chairs are me weakness...I totally can see them re-covered! So unique! Take care, Caroline
I love stores like this! I could spend hours treasure hunting!! don't you wish you could fit all these goodies in your carry-on?
SO glad you stopped by:) Have a feeling I am going to love your blog!
cheers!
