[ oar decor and my oar makeover ]

I'VE BEEN coming across quite a few examples of oars being used in decor and I love the casual, seaside feel of it.

I was hoping I might stumble upon an old oar somewhere but was sure it wasn't going to happen in Dubai. Until, Pottery Barn was having their summer clearance sale and I scored this one for only $13!

I wasn't crazy about the navy colour but I knew that I could easily give it a fresh new look.

And here you go!

I love the cottagey look and the pale turquoise is always a favourite colour of mine. I'm not sure if I'll hang it or not, but for now, I'm happy with it leaning in the corner.

I really like your makeover on it - way better than the original!!
My parents have just purchased a condo in a beach community. It is empty right now and we are starting the decorating planning - this idea is going in the file :)

I had to laugh - I was painting a set of my oars yesterday too! I am trying to spruce up a dull and dark area of the hallway.

I love how yours turned out!!

I love oar decor. I have an amazing one hanging in my son's room. It is an old trophy oar and has all the signatures of the winning team on the paddle! I also have 4 oars leaning in a corner of my family room but the paddles are all on the floor, the opposite of all your examples! I guess I'm a bit backwards but I like them like that :)
Your oar turned out great!!!
Love it!!!

This is so my style. PB should stop manufacturing it as is and take their cue from you! What an improvement and such a nice addition to your space.

That turned out really cute Lisa. I grew up on a little lake It would be so cool to have our rowboats oars now - they were so worn out! I do have the old rake we used to rake weeds out of the lake with. I keep thinking I have to take it apart and make one of those necklace holders!
