[ white slipcover how-to part 1 ]

AS PROMISED, today I'll fill you in on my progress with my white slipcovers!

The chair victims... my 2 leather club chairs.

The last time I sewed a slipcover for a sofa and a chair, I was much more intricate and created paper patterns for all the pieces. It took me forever.

This time, I decided to follow the much more free-spirited approach of Miss Mustard Seed and watched her how-to videos before I got started. No pattern pieces, just tear the fabric and start pinning inside out!

I started by making my piping...

Then onto the chairs...{I decided to work on the 2 chairs simultaneously ~ I thought it might quicken the project and avoid me feeling burnt out after one chair, leaving the other without a cover!}

These babies were slippery! If you're making a slipcover for any other type of fabric chair, it will be much easier since the fabric pieces won't want to keep slipping and you can even pin them to your chair if you need to.

Because my chairs don't have a separate back cushion, the shape was a little tricky to work with.

This was definitely the trickiest area ~ just trying to keep the pieces smooth and avoid puckers was enough to throw me off the deep end!

Since there are so many steps involved, I've decided to split this into a couple of posts. Tune in tomorrow for part 2 of my how-to! Let's finish these babies!

Wow! Your progress is looking fantastic! Smart to work at the same time on each chair. I'm with you that finishing one might be overwhelming mentally!

I'm dead impressed with this! As you know, I'm a bit obsessed with slip covers...but I can't sew a thing, so I'm really dying to see how these turn out! I've never seen anyone cover leather chairs, so this is doubly impressive!
(Your pics do a great job of explaining the process. Even I understood!)

This looks great -- makes me want to try it. I love slipcovered furniture, but I've yet to own any. What a difference from brown leather to white! Love it.

Are they piped edges I spot there? How utterly admirable!

Wow...
Looks amazing, like a pro. I am jealous...I have two chairs in desperate need of slipcovers...I might now have to attempt it. With such good instructions I have no more excuses. Can't wait to see the finished product.
