LOCAL Ontario strawberries are in season! And you know what that means? Strawberry shortcake!

It's one of my absolute favourite summer desserts because it's SO quick and easy and everyone loves it. And it's always so much better if you can use sweet local berries. Throw in some raspberries and blueberries too if you like. 

how to

step 1: buy an angel food cake at your local bakery or grocery store (no baking required - we're keeping this simple!)

step 2: wash and slice strawberries and toss with a bit of sugar in a bowl. let sit for a while in the fridge until they get juicy

step 3: whip up some whipping cream with a couple teaspoons of sugar

step 4: cut cake in half width-wise or if you don't want to assemble an entire cake, cut slices for individual servings

step 5: assemble with layers of cake, whipped cream and juicy berries

• yummy served with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side 

(or for a low-fat individual serving, sub in fat-free vanilla yogurt instead of whipping cream and ice cream)
